My fitness journey has been a long and struggling road, and it still is. I’m definitely one who needs the motivation to get my butt to the gym. In February 2016, I decided to get a personal trainer – I just finished the sessions last month. Now, I am in boot camp to get myself back on track with getting to the gym. Here are my gym essentials that make my life a bit easier!
First of all, you need a gym bag! I love small duffle bags as they fit everything you need for your workout in them, and they are not too heavy and bulky to carry around. I switch between my Under Armour yoga bag and my Adidas small duffle bag – both do the job!
Don’t forget your sneakers! You definitely want a good pair of training sneakers for your workouts – your feet and calves will thank you, trust me. I love my Nikes, I wear them everywhere, so no surprise when I stocked up on extra pairs, specifically for my gym bag. I like to keep my gym sneakers just for the gym. This way, they are always in my bag – no chance of me leaving them home, and they are always clean!
Don’t forget your water bottle! It’s very important to stay hydrated during your workout – I’ve forgotten mine a few times, my body hated me for it!
To keep your belongings safe during your workout, you will need a combination lock. I recommend a combination rather than a key so you don’t have to worry about carrying the key with you, or it becoming misplaced. Also, stick with a smaller lock as lockers vary in size at different locations.
I am always forgetting to bring elastics to the gym with me. Especially working in an office, my hair is usually left down. I personally cannot handle having my hair all over the place when I run and get sweaty so my next tip – buy a pack of elastics (hair ties) just for your gym bag! This way, you never forget.
When I work out alone, I NEED to have my headphones. I find time goes by faster and I’m more energized and motivated when I put on some Britney Spears – my gym does not play Britney, why? Of course, any headphones will do the job!
Another key essential is an armband to hold your phone or iPod/MP3. You could always put your device in your pants waistband, or inside your shirt, but if you’re not about getting it full of sweat – this is for you!
I always keep makeup wipes in my gym bag. After a long day at the office, it feels great to just wipe it all off! Also, I don’t need to get on the floor, start sweating and then my makeup running down my face, leaving me looking like a clown. These are my favorite!
Deodorant is a must to keep in your bag! I usually apply before my workout – just to make sure I don’t scare off others once I start to sweat – and once I’m finished my workout, just to feel clean and less smelly until I get a shower.
You may think I’m going a little overboard with this next one, but I swear by it! You can buy individually wrapped feminine hygiene wipes and they are perfect to keep in your bag! Again, once finished with your workout you’re sweaty and not smelling the best – these will keep you feeling fresh until its shower time!
Lastly, don’t forget your workout clothes! I usually take a top, capri pants, socks, and an extra pair or underwear for after my workout!
Ps – Don’t forget your protein bar!
